The purpose of Butterfly Foundation is to extend the advantages of current spine care technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of complex spine deformity to patients and doctors who do not have access to such resources. Butterfly Foundation fulfills its purpose through the following action.

Surgery Missions:

The Butterfly Foundation gathers and facilitates medical personnel and equipment, and supplies the resources required to put together comprehensive spine surgery teams. The teams include world-class expertise in implants technology, spinal deformity surgery, anesthesia, neuro-monitoring, nursing and critical care.

Teaching:

An integral part of the surgery mission, the traveling surgical team members teach, giving hands-on guidance in the operating room, didactic lecture and technical presentations after hours. Spine care technology is shared across all operating room skill sets; team member surgeons, anesthesiologists, neuro-monitors, operating room nurses and technicians each sharing their spine care expertise with their local counterparts of the hosting hospital.

Beyond Scoliosis:

In the beginning, Butterfly Foundation was meant to help children, but not by surgery. Geraldine Moulton, Co-Founder, gathered donations and made an annual gift to the patients of Robert Reid Cabral Pediatric Hospital in the Dominican Republic during the holiday season. These children suffered from diseases like tuberculosis, cancer, and pneumonia and because of the lack of resources patients would be put in overcrowded rooms in the worst of conditions. Some of the children were abandoned by their families and lived in the hospital.

The Foundation wishes to continue helping the children of this hospital as we continue to keep close contact with patients. We are committed to helping children, as we believe that there can be no better job than helping the worm turn into a butterfly so that it may achieve the impossible. We like to believe that this foundation has a heart whose every beat brings us closer to achieving a better world for children.
